Leicester is the largest city in the East Midlands and the second largest urban area in the East Midlands behind Nottingham. Eurostat’s Larger Urban Zone listed the population of the area at 772,400 people as of 2004.

Spread Eagle is situated near two excellent Universities; the University of Leicester (1.29KM) and De Montfort University (0.8KM).

De Montfort University has two campuses in Leicester serving over 20,000 students in any academic year. The University has one of the largest numbers of Teacher Fellows of any UK University and was awarded Centre of Excellence status for its performance practice teaching and student support.

The University of Leicester has established itself as a leading research-led university and has been named University of the Year of 2008 by the Times Higher Education. The university has consistently ranked amongst the top 20 universities in the United Kingdom by the Times Good University Guide, The Guardian and the Sunday Times University Guide.

The University has over 23,000 students, and is ranked in the top three per cent of universities in the world.

Leicester Tigers (officially Leicester Football Club) is an English rugby union club that plays in the Aviva Premiership.

Leicester are the most successful English club since the introduction of league rugby in 1987, a record 9 times English champions – 3 more than either Bath or Wasps, the last of which was in 2010. Leicester have also appeared in a record seven successive Premiership finals since 2005.
